Coaches' Responsibilities
The Roseville Sugarbears coaches are employees of the Roseville Parks and
Recreation Department and are under the direction of the Parks and Recreation
Department staff who overse the competitive aquatics programs. The Head
Coach and Assistant Coaches are responsible for the planning, organizing and
directing of all the activities of the swim team. Each Swim Coach is
certified by the American Red Cross in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the
Professional Rescuer and First Aid for Lifeguards. Specific
responsibilities are as follows:
- Supervise the safe, efficient and effective operation of pool facilities
during the workouts and competitive meets.
- Post and maintain accurate records of meet results, times and scores for
all team swimmers.
- Prepares entries for league meets, practice meets and Championships.
- Coaches and instructs swimmers on competitive swimming techniques
including stroke mechanics, starts, turns and training methods.
- Organizes and directs team practices.
- Maintains discipline and control of team members during practice sessions
and meets.
- Trains, supervises and coordinates efforts of parent volunteers in the
conduct of swimming meets and other team activities.
- Attends team social activities for team members and volunteers throughout
the swim season.
- Develops positive attitudes and motivates team members towards competition
through team meetings, goal setting and individual swimmer counseling.
- Performs first aid as necessary.
- Supervises proper use of all equipment including pace clock, lane ropes,
kickboards, stop watches, starting system, flags, etc..
