    Age Group Results
Take a peek at our future!
Speaks volumes of what our AWESOME coaches have been able to do in such a short amount of time.
As most of you know, we are currently low in numbers in the 13/14 age group.
    Swimmers have been improving dramatically!!!
Scores will climb even higher as more swimmers get their strokes consistently legal.
For parents and new swimmers, here is a quick rules primer on stroke violations.

Our Team, agegroup and individual pictures are now in.
They can be picked up at the Oakmont pool deck, next to the family folders.

We would enjoy seeing any Gators and hope they come wearing their new Gator Gear proudly.

    First Home Meet
Volunteer assignments have been updated as of June 30.
Parent participation and support has been fantastic this year.
The following are areas where additional assistance could be provided during our first home meets.
  • Ribbons
  • Hospitality
  • Set Up and/or Tear Down
  • For each of these tasks, we do have some coverage but we could use more.
These can be a split shift (am or pm) if we can get enough parents to sign up.
Please contact Carmen Morel if you can assist for any of these positions.
If you have previously expressed interest in these positions but don't see your name she apologizes up front.
    Swim-A-Thon.
Don't forget to be gathering pledges for the Swim-A-Thon.
    It's Wednesday, July 6th!
As you see all those relatives for the holiday let them know your goals on the Swim-A-Thon and how much you love our wonderful team!
The swimmers will be swimming the Swim-A-Thon laps next Wednesday.
Please turn in your envelopes to Megan Hoppes or in her family folder located on the Oakmont pool deck.
If you need to estimate an amount to get the envelope turned in before/on Wednesday that is fine, or you can turn it in on Thursday.
Blank envelopes are in the front of the family file.

Fireworks Booth - Coaches Ratings - More Night Treasures are IN!
Our booth is setup in the Target parking lot and we are now in business.
Stinky picked up more Night Treasures late Sunday (July 3rd), in the hopes more swim families can get one.

Jameson and Jordan on night two and Allison and Kelley for night three.
So, if you have recently seen our coaches YWAWNNING on the pool deck, you can now understand why.
Lastly, special luv goes to Carmen as she has been through the ultimate test on our most recent new game. Musical Trailers!!
As soon as you hear the music stop, switch trailers!
Congratulations to Kathy Mott, Leslie Camillen, Joe Hill and Jill Maccione.
They sold "The Big Bang" (a $499.99 item) during their shift. Excellent!

    High Point Reports Corrected
How stinky! The initial high point reports after the Granite Bay meet were incorrect.
The High Point report from Granite Bay and the 2005 Overall were updated today, Tuesday June 28th.
The CheeseMan sends his apologies, especially to Nick Bennett and Michelle Lawrence, our current High Point Leaders.
And also to Rebecca Brandt our Top High Point scorer within the swamp.

    Family BBQ was a BLAST!
Sugarbears went old school and had a blast at our family BBQ picnic. Hometown fun. That was AWESOME!!!
Thank you to all that attended, participated and assisted.
Special Thank you to the Salatti and Brandt Families for organizing and running the event.
Swim relays were a real kick with some of the notable winners being the Brandt Family in the mixed relay.
Julie Lawerence won the Sugarbear Mom race.
While Pete Hradecky just out touched Brian Renyer for the Sugarbear Daddy award.

Volunteer of the Week - Brett Williams
Brett stepped up and came up to speed very quickly on using our Team Manager and Meet Manager Software these past couple weeks
He entered and managed all of our meet entries for the past two swim meets and provided web updates entirely solo.
We ran into a slight glitch in "psyching out" our team parents for the GB meet, but when you consider all that is involved he did a marvelous job.
    Thank you Brett!

    Beary Best Program
Checkout the newly added "2005 - Overall Improvement" report below.
This is an easy way to check for earned visits to the Sugarbear Treasure Box.
Two listed improvements (negative numbers) for a swimmer earns them a prize.
Just fill out a Beary Best Form and turn it in to Julie Lawrence.
Please take a look at all of the local businesses who have provided items.
Julie is usually at the Tuesday morning practice. Thank you Julie!!

    Congratulations (AGAIN!) Mackenzi!
Break out with that label maker one more time! Mackenzi McWilliams broke the Sugarbear team record in the swamp!
She posted a 35.39, breaking her own 35.82 in the 50 Breast (11-12) which she posted just two weeks earlier.
    Congratulations (encore) Mackenzi!!!!

A giant THANK YOU to Andrew Shire for stepping up and agreeing to be our announcer this year!!!

This week we would like to pass on our THANK YOU to the entire timing crew.
We discovered we needed additional timers at Placerville and our Head Timer, Patrick Bussey, received excellent support throughout!
Great job everyone and THANK YOU!!!
It's been exciting to see all our swim families get to know each other and enjoy themselves.
Received the greatest compliment a swim program could ever ask for by a parent stating their (9/10) swimmer is already asking about next year!
They were wanting to check and make sure they would be able to register and participate for next year already.
    Swim on!!!

    Placerville Meet
A reminder that our meet in Placerville is at Union Mine High School...NOT El Dorado High School
The "Local Pools" handout that the City recently provided has directions to both pools, so please be careful.

Volunteer of the Week - Bucky Skibo
Bucky arrived to help setup at Time Trials BEFORE 6:00am and even before the gate was unlocked!
He helped time during the meet and was one of the last ones to leave after helping with the tear down.
Thank you Bucky! The Sugarbears are very fortunate to have you and your family on our team.
Honorable mention goes to all of this year's team parents.
It was a definate leap of faith for those who have never done it before and stepped up. Thank you!
For those who have done it before and knew the challenges with so many new parents and swimmers, thank you for your dedication.
The great news is we got through it!
It was difficult to announce the award this week, since everyone deserves big Kudos for their help and contribution.
That is the beauty and love experienced by a swim team. Everyone's help makes the "Roost-a-sha" as easy as just being two thumbs up.

Time Trials on Saturday, May 21st at the RAC
Our Time Trials will be held at the Roseville Aquatic Center (RAC), instead of at Oakmont.
The Woodcreek Seawolves have been very kind in offering to host our time trials with them, which is greatly appreciated.
Sugarbears are thrilled since we did not have a dual meet scheduled this year with the Seawolves.
Also, this is an excellent opportunity for Sugarbears and the new swim families to see how a meet is ran.
Gives us the chance to break-in our Starter, Head Timer, computer ops, timers and runners a little bit easier.
In addition, this help relieve our Snackbar and BBQ organizing, since we will not need to fully execute until our final two home meets.
    Thank you Seawolves!

For better organization and planning for this year's swim season, an on-line Volunteer Registration Form has been created to enter and view Sugarbear Volunteer Support.

Wow! A lot has happened over the past month.

After getting over the initial shock, Stinky formed a standing committee for the Roseville Sugarbears.
Click on "2005 Officers" to see the list of the new committee members and their contact info.
Carmen Morel stepped up and has become the new VP of the Roseville Sugarbears. Thank you Carmen!
The standing committee has been approved by the Roseville Aquatic Team (RAT) Booster Club and are now official board members.

The committee along with Carmen Morel and Geoff Brandt have met with the City of Roseville to better understand the history of the situation and discuss positive ways to move forward.
As a new committee, we have been very pleased with the help and support of the city.
Better communication between the board, coaches, parents, and the city appears to be a key ingredient in us being successful.

Carolynne Bottum, previous Sugarbear and Sugarbear coach is our new league Representative!
We are thrilled to have Carolynne as our new league rep. Her bubbly personality and energetic enthusiasm will be an added bonus on the pool deck.
Click here to look up Carolynne's top times as a Sugarbear.

With nearly 40 years of history in Roseville, the Sugarbear committee has been pleasantly surprised with the level and quality of help that have shown their support.
Mark and Valerie Boles have volunteered to assist with this year's swim season!
Mark is a past president of the Sugarbears and was one of our finest announcers.
Valerie Boles has worn many hats with the Sugarbears and was our computer operator and head team parent extraordinaire.

Past Sugarbear Board Member Bob Cornilsen has offered to help the Cheeseman setup and test the Colorado and touchpads, end-to-end, well before timetrials.
This was scheduled and actually completed successfully on the weekend of February 12/13. Thank you Bob!
Craig Jamison also stopped by and provided his assistance in giving his input on how to setup, which is greatly appreciated.
In addition, the front gate to Oakmont pool, with OHS VP Greg O'Meara's approval, was sanded down, primed and painted navy blue. Looks Great and a nice improvement!
The Oakmont Parent's Club (OPC), led by Cliff Colyer, also had the storage unit at OHS painted navy blue! Thank you OPC!!!

We also did basic cleanup of the pool and weed whacked around the pool and parking lot area.

Sugarbear parent and author of the Roseville Aquatic Team Booster Club by-laws, Marcus LoDuca, provided pro-bono assistance with explaining the by-laws and legalities to both the Sugarbears and the Gators. Thank you Marcus!

The Oakmont Parents Club (OPC) have also expressed their willingness to help and support the Roseville Sugarbears.

Karen Salatti has taken full charge of socials for the Sugarbears, having done this job once before, she has her full "game on".
Our social calendar is in place with DJ's and several locations already reserved.
We are planning to breathe new life into several of our socials. For example, encouraging each age group to perform skits in Royer park this year.
Chubby Bunny, Funny Face, Roost-a-sha and a snipe hunt are all on their way.
We are also going a bit "retro" in bringing back the family BBQ and swim relays in June! Cooool!

Sugarbears will be going back to the basics and focusing on the FUN.
We will be taking the swimmers (preferably beginning at the age of 6&Under) and stew them in total love and fun up through graduation.
The older kids will be involved in helping teach the younger kids good technique and the rest will just take care of itself.

The Sugarbears look forward to running this year's fireworks booth.
The Cheeseman has been a member of the Knight of Columbus for over 15 years and knows what is involved with running a fireworks booth.
Receiving the manpower is very important. Sugarbears look forward to tapping into the many new families, energy and ideas that are expected to be joining this year's team.
Stinky plans to take the entire week off from work during the fireworks booth, to ensure it's success.

Our team is expected to be smaller this year, which should enable swimmers to swim more events and also provide a more intimate family environment.
A true champion is one that faces adversity and overcomes it.

After getting over the initial shock of the Gators being created, the Sugarbears are genuinely excited about this coming swim season.

The City of Roseville is in the process of hiring our new head coach.
We are very excited and anxious to meet our new coach, but prefer the City take their time and get it right.

You may have noticed the preliminary, initial Gator website looking a bit familiar.
The Cheeseman created the website and is willing to assist the Gator's computer operators come up to speed on being a Webmaster, Team Manager and Meet Manager.
Update: The new Gator website was designed, developed, and hosted courtesy of the Solone and Thompson families.
The link to the new Gator website can be found to the left side menu of this website, under "Related Links".

The Sugarbears completely understand if previous swimmers decide to join the new Gator swim team (or Seawolves). There are many factors for each family to consider.
I have talked to many and understand the issues of demographics, schedules, coaching and social ties.
But always remember that... "Once a Sugarbear, Always a Sugarbear". You are always welcomed back home to Oakmont Pool.
    Keep on swimming.

If you are interested in assisting with the Sugarbears, please contact me (Michael Taylor) and/or the City of Roseville (Alexa Pritchard).
Here is the list of Sugarbear swimmer's intentions before the 2005 swim season.

    Roseville Sugarbears have given Birth!!
Appears to be a Gator and will be habitating in Granite Bay.
Sugarbears and Gators are excited about the 2005 swim season, as our family has expanded and we will be able accomodate more swimmers within VFCAL!

Birth and change does not come without pain, so we ask for everyone's patience, understanding and cooperation.
A top priority is to make the change as seamless and painless as possible for the swimmers on both teams.
We had an open meeting on January 13, 2005 to communicate the history and background for the change and give everyone a chance to ask questions.
Several questions and concerns were raised at the meeting on how the two teams may be splitting the current assets.
Click here to view the current list of assets.

The majority, if not all, of the 2004 board members and coaches are moving to the new Granite Bay Gator team.
Roseville City is in the process of hiring a new Head Coach and coaching staff for the SugarBears.

Personally, the CheeseMan plans to stay a Sugarbear and is willing to be a part of the new Sugarbear board.

Registration packets for returning swimmers will be mailed out January 31st 2005.
Swimmers/Families have their choice on which team they choose to join.

The StinkyCheeseMan was not overly proud of the article that appeared in the Press Tribune in January of 2005.
His motive and intention was to make Roseville aware of the expansion and that more people needed to become involved and help the Sugarbears.

The memorial service was this Thursday (8/19) at 7:00 PM at Our lady of the Assumption.

Click here to view our 2004 Meet Attendance Report.
A swimmer needs to attend at least one dual meet to be eligible for Champs.
During the off-season, please gently encourage SugarBear swimmers who only attended one or no meets in 2004, to help us defend our title in 2005!
To be more direct, here is a list of 50+ sugarbear swimmers that did not swim at the 2004 VFCAL Champs.

If you have trouble with your computer slowing down from spyware getting on you system from your sugarbear visiting stinky sites such as kazaa,
the cheeseman highly recommends you download and run a free copy of spybot to remove spyware.
